AGE Morning Assembly

فَٱذْكُرُونِىٓ أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ لِى وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ

"Therefore, remember Me and I shall remember you; and be grateful unto Me, and deny Me not." (Surat Al-Baqarah, Verse 152)

Every morning, AGE students begin their day with the remembrance of their Creator, Allah (swt). Under the guidance of our Sheikh, every student engages in reciting the Athkar Asabah each morning. In aiming to solely please and remember Allah (swt), we are also ensuring to purify hearts, attain closeness to Allah (swt), and reap the spiritual benefits of this critical part of the day among the AGE student body.

Hajj Simulation:

AGE takes immense pride in its Quran, Islamic Studies and Arabic (QIA) division. Comprised of an exceptional group of educators with their impressive academic backgrounds, sharp skills and fine talents, the division members collaboratively work on constantly enhancing our students’ Islamic Character Building program, starting the school year with the annual Hajj Simulation. Since this Hajj Simulation event will be the last one our AGE students will be experiencing at school for years to come, the QIA Division gave the AGE students a wonderful time during the Hajj Simulation yesterday.

AGE Science Fair:

100th Days of School at AGE: Celebrating the 100th Day of School, AGE students started off the day with the “ Barakah” of the Holy Quran for the first hour, as usual. They then cuddled up with a book and some hot cocoa , collectively reading 100 books within one hour. Afterwards, students from each class collaboratively worked on a class project that they presented to the entire student body in an assembly after Zuhr prayers. The 100th day ended with the students enjoying cotton candy and popcorn together.  Collaboration, Critical thinking and Creativity taking place away from the curriculum.

Respect Mankind… Stand up Against Hatred (45 photos): In the wake of the devastating news that shocked our Muslim Community recently, Academy of Greatness and Excellence, an accredited Islamic School, held a school-wide Anti-Bullying assembly yesterday, Thursday, February 12th. The 1st Grade Seeds of Change Character Day, was planned earlier to present Characters from History that had made a change, standing up against bullying, and standing up for Peace and Prosperity.

However, after Chapel Hill, the message has been tweaked: Respect Mankind… Stand up Against Hatred. The event ended with a collective duaa for the three beautiful lives, now lost. May Allah have mercy on their souls and give their families peace.

Reading Competition Award Ceremony: In an award ceremony, after Jumaa Prayers, all students that have participated in the school-wide reading competition were awarded with reading achievement certificates and special recognition by the AGE student body, staff and Principal. The top readers from each class were awarded with a Kindle Fire, a gift from the AGE Board of Directors, to further encourage our students to read, read and read.

The Scholastic Book Fair arrived at Academy of Greatness and Excellence bringing about loads of excitement by enthusiastic readers.

Since the beginning of December, students at AGE have already packed up their reading gear, starting their reading journey Around the World in 60 Days, filling out their Reading Passports, as they follow their itinerary. Today, they all made a stop at the Book Fair to load their backpacks with books from different countries around the world. During DEAR time, the students traveled to the different countries around the world, through their books. At AGE, all students know that in order to succeed, everyone must read, read and read!

Around the World in 80 Days- AGE Literacy Day (115 photos)

Walking into the gymnasium at Academy of Greatness and Excellence last Sunday was like walking into a different world; a world rich with literature, artifacts, art and crafts from all across the globe.

On December 21st, Academy of Greatness and Excellence hosted its first annual literacy event: Around the World in 80 Eighty Days, where the AGE students visited different countries such as Pakistan, the Netherlands, England and Morocco through books, literacy activities, arts & crafts.

The AGE teachers, or rather tour guides, helped set their students’ itinerary, moving them from one booth to another as they read through the different books and helped them with the activities that went along with the theme of each book. The children had a great time reading and exploring new places in the world. Mission accomplished!

Stop, Drop and Roll & Stranger Danger at A.G.E (43 photos)

The parking lot at Academy of Greatness and Excellence was roaring with fire truck, police car sirens and students’ laughter in excitement. On Thursday, November 20th, the Early Childhood department celebrated Community Workers Day by inviting the Teaneck Police Department, the Teaneck Fire Department and the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps. to hear from primary sources all about how they help our local community.

The event was the culminating activity of a two-week long unit on Community Helpers, where the students learned all about different professions and jobs, especially of those who serve the community. They have been eagerly anticipating this day, since they couldn't wait to meet real firefighters and police officers. They sure got what they have waited for.

The students from Pre-K and Kindergarten sat quietly listening to presentation after the other and curiously asked questions. They all then were escorted to the fire truck, police car and Ambulance, standing in the school parking lot, and took turns getting on them and checking out the special equipment on each of them. As a reward for the students very good behavior, the Fire Department gave each student a bright red fire hat to keep.  The experience was truly inspiring and will sure last the students a life-time.

1st Graders’ Experiential Learning at Stop & Shop (13 photos)

Connecting student learning to real-life concepts and experiences is always one of Ms. Erum Waheed’s goals for her 1st Graders. So, today, December 2nd, she took her students for a walk down the street to the local Stop & Shop supermarket, where they did some stopping, shopping and learning.

After meeting Vinnie the Baker, and watching the process of baking pastries and bread, the curious 1st graders walked through the supermarket aisles, learning about the prices of different items and goods and the best ways to make wise and healthy choices.

On Friday, January 16th, the AGE PTO hosted a Movie Night for all the AGE students who had fun eating pizza and munching popcorn as they watched The Lego Movie in the school gymnasium.

It was also a very nice time for parents to bond in the cozy atmosphere.
